University of Rochester Softball

We are hosting two 7 v 7 Indoor Scrimmage days
on January 14th & 21st.

The games are played in the Goergen Athletic Field House.

This will give your teams an opportunity to face live pitching and play on a turf
surface during those cold winter months. The outfield is somewhat limited, so teams
can get by with just a centerfielder.
Games are 75 minutes long. The first game is $125 and every game after is $100.
We do our best to match teams up according to ability, but it is dependent on
who registers. This is a great way to get your team together for some game play
during the winter months.

We are also holding a Top Prospect Camp on January 21st .
You can register at www.rochestersoftballcamp.com. This camp is designed for softball players (grades 8-12) that are interested in the University of Rochester Softball Program. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Rochester Thunder – Furno

21U / 18+ Team

Pitcher needed to complete roster.
Interested in Full Time Starting Player or Sub.

Mix of Both League and Tournament Play

If interested please feel free to contact me at:

Joe Furno: Coach of Thunder 21U / OPEN / 18+ Team Furno
jfurno@rochester.rr.com or call at 585-350-6556

Note: RFastP: I have recently received a couple emails asking what's the age
limits for an Open Softball Team.
Open, 21U, 18+, Unlimited, all about the same.
Open Team: Any age, usually about 17 years old to 100 years old. This gives all
the former High School and College Champions a place to still play Fastpitch, plus many new comers a place to keep playing and competing in Fastpitch Softball
. Slowpitch Players will sometimes fill in a position or spot and stay with the Fastpitch Team.
The youngest age is 18 years old, but some teams will play 17 year olds. Any younger is putting players in jeopardy, some of the older Women and Men still put a lot of travel on that ball......you don't want a younger person getting injuried. Plus there are plenty of 16U teams looking for players.
This gets repeated further down.

Even at 3,4 or 5 years old, you can pitch a wiffle ball to them and see if they can hit or catch. If anything, it would increase hand/eye coordination and help in later years in any sport. I think a lot of people would be surprised to see how well a 4 or 5 year old can hit a wiffle ball with a plastic bat with only a couple days practice. In a few days they start adjusting and start to clobber the ball over your head.

1. Get more girls of all ages involved in fastpitch softball.

2. If a local fastpitch association can be formed and can organize leagues, games and tournaments in a seven-county area, or the Section V area, there would be an organization to start in motion a master plan to build a centrally located softball complex where local leagues, sectional games, tournaments, etc. could be played. This would end the need to beg for fields, pay for fields, or kiss someones bu-- to get the use of a diamond for a few hours.
The more people who get involved, the easier it would be to build something like this. Both Buffalo and Syracuse have complexes built with public funding which are strictly for fastpitch softball!

3. Keep girls involved at all ages. Buffalo has an open league with no age limit. Females of all ages, from young girls to women who have graduated from college and have children of their own, still play in fastpitch leagues.

With Title IX and all the money spent on men's sports facilities in our area, it it is not that far-fetched to believe that a local complex could be built.
