Battery Lightning Softball

Over the Holiday break on Sunday 12/22 we will be holding
a fast paced, high energy Softball Skills Camp for athletes
ages 10-13 and 14-17.

This camp will focus on high level skill sets in areas such as Base Running,
Defensive Glove-Work/Foot-Work for both Infield and Outfield along with tips
and advice from instructors that have many years of coaching kids through
the recruiting process along with Student Athletes playing at or headed to a
variety of NCAA Division I, II & III schools. There will also be a separate
session specifically for Catchers covering all facets of the position.
While we will not be doing anything specific to "Pitching" this will be a
great camp for kids to learn the positions keys defensively in areas such
as the skills and footwork, bunt coverage and situational responsibilities.

Session 1 will be held from 9AM-12PM for players ages 10-13 and
Session 2 will be held from 1PM-4PM for players ages 14-17.
At $45 per player this will be an absolute steal when you look at
the amount of work being done and the drills players will be shown
and walk away with.

We have been to a lot of "Showcase Camps" and "Softball Camps" over the years
that charge much more and provide a lot of standing around and little value as far
as teaching and activity. This will NOT be one of those.

For more information about the Camp and pictures of the beautiful
indoor facility at MCC which this will be held at go to:

Even at 3,4 or 5 years old, you can pitch a wiffle ball to them and see if they can hit or catch. If anything, it would increase hand/eye coordination and help in later years in any sport. I think a lot of people would be surprised to see how well a 4 or 5 year old can hit a wiffle ball with a plastic bat with only a couple days practice. In a few days they start adjusting and start to clobber the ball over your head.

1. Get more girls of all ages involved in fastpitch softball.

2. If a local fastpitch association can be formed and can organize leagues, games and tournaments in a seven-county area, or the Section V area, there would be an organization to start in motion a master plan to build a centrally located softball complex where local leagues, sectional games, tournaments, etc. could be played. This would end the need to beg for fields, pay for fields, or kiss someones bu-- to get the use of a diamond for a few hours.
The more people who get involved, the easier it would be to build something like this. Both Buffalo and Syracuse have complexes built with public funding which are strictly for fastpitch softball!

3. Keep girls involved at all ages. Buffalo has an open league with no age limit. Females of all ages, from young girls to women who have graduated from college and have children of their own, still play in fastpitch leagues.

With Title IX and all the money spent on men's sports facilities in our area, it it is not that far-fetched to believe that a local complex could be built.
